If you are new to the sport of paintball and you intend to learn the basics and fundamentals of the game early on I highly recommend you pick up a pump paintball gun. Pump paintball guns have gotten a bad rap and should be considered heavily by anyone who is just learning how to play paintball. The concern with pump paintball guns is that you'll be at a disadvantage against users of electric paintball guns. Fortunately for the owners of pump paintball guns the opposite is usually true. All in all if you ask me pump paintball guns are great way to learn how to play paintball.
On the paintball field it is generally the paintballers playing with pump paintball guns that usually have the advantage. Sure electric guns fire a lot faster but will they help you become more accurate? Not only will using a pump paintball gun force you to be more accurate but most paintballers also believe that pump paintball guns are more accurate then electric paintballs guns as well. Automatic paintball guns have a kick to them and that kick can and often times does produce errant shots. When you combine these things to gether it usually leads to a paintballer who is pretty accurate on the paintballing field.
For paintballers who are having trouble with their accuracy, I always recommend practicing with a pump paintball gun. If your goal is to become more accurate and you just want to become a better paintballer then you ought to consider practicing with a pump paintball gun. Users of automatic paintball guns often don't develop any other parts of their paintball game and strictly rely on the “spray and pray” mentality and this won't happen if you practice with a pump paintball gun. If you're using a pump paintball gun, you'll have to rely on your wits and intelligence to create a good shot for yourself and then you'll have to nail it and all of that will make you a better paintballer.
